The Rotopit is a continuous operation cherry pitter designed for catering and professional kitchens in order to pit large amounts of cherries, or other stone fruit, rapidly for multiple pies or other needs such as olive making. The Rotopit is meant to be hand held and is supported by its attached stand rather than being attached to a table like some other high volume pitters. The attached hopper allows for the user to move the Rotopit between locations where the pitted fruits are needed.
The operation and mechanics of the Rotopit are shown here. The front section, which handles the move meant of the cherries, receives a cherry from the hopper, moves it to the pitting location, the cherry is pitted, the pit falls out through the center and the cherry is then moved to the bottom where it falls out into the receiving pie crust or bowl. The cherry-handling disk has a removable housing and separates into two halves for easy cleaning. All the mechanical components in this video have been physically prototyped and tested.
